Enrichment


  
Enrichment is for those individuals who are not able to work or who work on a very limited basis.  It focuses on recreation-leisure, health and wellness, and community activities.  Individuals can participate in arts & crafts, games, physical exercise and a sensory room.

 

Currently, the Adult Services Department has three (3) Enrichment Groups.  The three (3) groups are located in the Adult Services Building on Cedar Road in Chesterland, Ohio.

 

Enrichment Group One  consists of five (5) Geauga County Board employees and eleven (11) individuals with disabilities.  The individuals in this group have multiple disabilities. The focus of the services delivered consist of personal care, assistance with eating and/or special diets, use of adaptive equipment, communication skills, recreation, socialization, utilizing sensory modalities, and physical activity such as stretching, use of an air mattress and range of motion exercises.

 

Enrichment Group Two has four (4) Geauga County Board of MRDD employees and ten (10) individuals with disabilities.  The individuals who participate in this group have a variety of medical and or physical care needs.  The individuals receive specialized care in the areas of assistance with mobility, eating, personal hygiene, use of adaptive equipment as well as recreation, socialization, communication and other activities of daily living skills.

 

Enrichment Group Three has three (3) Geauga County Board of MRDD employees and 8 individuals with disabilities.

 

The individuals are able to participate in a variety of activities that are located in the Adult Services Building, the School/Administration Building and the community.

 

In the Adult Services Building activities available include arts & crafts such as painting, paper maiche, making and painting plaster of paris molds, memory boxes; physical exercise such as walking, stretching, dancing; a sensory room, air mattress, games and educational presentations.

 

In the School/Administration Building the Enrichment Program utilizes the swimming pool, gym, vestibular room and the arts and crafts room. The gym provides adaptive tricycles, swings and games.

 

Community trips consists of tours of the Rescue Village, a local animal rescue agency, malley's Chocolates tour, the Flower Child Store, a nostalgia store, Punderson State Park, West Woods Park, Holden Arboretum, Wildlife Park, Lake Farm Park, the Geauga County Fair, Clevelanf Metro Zoo, a Polka Fest in Chardon, Ohio, and hay rides and tours at Patterson's Fruit Farm.

 

The Enrichment Program participants also celebrate special events and holidays.  Recent presentations include a re-enactment of Rosa Parks and the Montgomery bus riots, Martin Luther Kings "I have a Dream" speech and a follow-up discussion.
