Community Employment

The community employment program is available for individuals who are employed or would like to be employed in the community.

The community employment program is able to provide job coaching/follow-along service, job development and Community Employment readiness assessments.

Job Coaching/Follow-Along services are provided to individuals who currently have a job.  Services include on-the-job training in which the job coach will work one-on-one with the individual in his or her job setting.  The job coach and the individual will  work on completing job duties thoroughly, establishing a work schedule, assisting with the pace of work and much more.  The job coach will also assist with employer/employee relations to assure job expectations are being met.  The job coach utilizes a variety of avenues to communicate with the employer and employee such as in-person visits/observations, phone calls, attendance at team meetings and 1:1 meetings.

Job Development is provided to individuals who are seeking a community employment job.  Job Development is provided through the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation or through Geauga County Board of MRDD.  The goal in job development is for the individual to obtain a job that best meets his/her interests and skills.  A job developer will make contact with a variety of businesses and will introduce the employer with the potential employee.  The job developer communicates vital information such as schedule of work, rate of pay and work duties to potential employees.

Community Employment Readiness Assessment is provided to individuals who are requesting a community employment job but who either do not have a work history or are unsure of their interests and skills.

The assessment can include an evaluation of employment interests, assessments of reading, writing and math skills, mock interviews and completing employment applications, evaluations of work skills such as following directions, ability to get along with others etc.

Assessments can include the use of computer assessments, work related equipment (pallet jacks, shrink wrap machine, weigh count machine) and a medical history.
